Channing Tatum’s films have grossed well over $8 billion at the box office since his breakout role as Tyler Gage in 2006’s drama/dance flick Step Up, which went on to gross over $110 million at the global box office. It was also where Tatum would meet his then-wife Jenna Dewan, with whom he shares his daughter Everly Elizabeth.
The Hollywood actor, who is rumored to be dating Zoe Kravitz, has starred in a string of successful films over the years, including 22 Jump Street, Foxcatcher, White House Down, Magic Mike, The Vow, and The Eagle, to name a few, but his latest role as Alan in the action motion picture The Lost City may be his best work yet.
Alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Sandra Bullock, a reclusive romance novelist heads on a book tour and is swept up in a kidnapping attempt that has them trying to escape from a jungle. And in preparation for his role in his latest project, Tatum said he often tried channeling a particular actor. Here’s the lowdown…
Did Channing Tatum Imitate Brad Pitt?
During a promotional run for the film The Lost City, Tatum revealed that while he was getting ready to play the role of a novel cover model, he was trying to channel his best Brad Pitt impression, having laid a particular focus on the latter’s movie Legends of the Fall for inspiration.
The father-of-one made the revelation during his appearance on Ellen in March 2022, where he spoke highly of Pitt and his co-star Bullock, who also worked as a producer on the action flick.
While talking to Ellen Degeneres, Tatum said that working with the A-list celebs was a pleasure, particularly because they turned out to be “everything you want [them] to be.”
Speaking of getting into character for his new movie, the Dear John star gushed: “I actually gave the note - I have to wear a wig for my cover model look and I said I just want to look like Legends of the Fall Brad Pitt. Can you please make me that?
“He's so funny in this. I think people don't know how funny he is. I think he's done comedies but nothing this broad.”
By the look of things, Tatum and Pitt had a great time working together as their bond wasn’t just noticeable during filming but also behind the scenes when the pair enjoyed riding their motorcycles together and being very approachable toward the Alabama native.
Tatum continued: “I think we all have our assumptions on how people are before you meet them, and you're kind of afraid to meet them because you don't want them to not be what you hope them to be, and she's just every bit as lovely as you want her to be.”
Is Channing Tatum Working On Magic Mike 3?
During the same interview, Tatum did reveal that Magic Mike 3 is in development, though an official release date has yet to be announced.
The 41-year-old shared that the character which he first played in 2012 Magic Mike is constantly in tip-top shape, so it was quite the adjustment for Tatum to get his body in the best shape possible, particularly because he’s older now.
Prepping for filming in the coming weeks has been intense for the actor, but he’s excited to bring the third installment to the big screen very soon.
“I'm very sore, my body aches in rehearsal, it's very intense, but yes, we're deep in it,” he said.
In regards to his current diet, Tatum explained he was doing “lots of no eating, lots more of no eating, and then on the bike, a lot. It takes a lot longer to get in shape now.”
“What's crazy about it is you can spend three months trying to get down to like zero percent body fat, and you just like walk by a cheeseburger at like too close of a radius, and you feel like it just all goes away.”
Training for films where he has to be in the best shape possible has gotten much harder for Tatum, who further stressed that once he has reached his desired goal, he’ll try and hold onto that for as long as he can since reaching his desired weight has proven to be much more challenging now that he’s older.
Since his rise to fame with 2006's Step Up, Tatum has amassed a whopping $80 million fortune, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
