Samuel Irving Newhouse, Jr., known as Si, was a prominent figure in the media industry. He and his brother Donald inherited their father's multimillion-dollar publishing and broadcasting empire, Advanced Publications, in 1979. Under Si's leadership, the company grew into one of the largest privately owned companies in the US, with publications such as The New Yorker, Wired, and Vogue, as well as cable TV firm Bright House Networks, Reddit, and a stake in Discovery Communications. Si retired in 2015 and passed away in October 2018 at the age of 89. He was known for his extensive art collection, which included works by Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns.
